Description

Aloinopsis malherbei, native to South Africa, has branching rosettes of spatula-shaped, erect bluish-gray leaves. White beads line the leaf margins. Honey-scented pale yellow flowers are 1" diameter. In the wild, clumps of this species resemble the limestone outcrops among which they grow. Excellent in an atrium or on a bright windowsill.

Bloom time: Winter to early spring
Size: 2 inches high and 12 inches + wide
Plant in very porous soil with less humus or peat moss
Provide bright light to full sun (light shade in hottest summer areas)
Water thoroughly when soil is completely dry to the touch
Hardiness: Zone 9a (20-25° F)
