Set your slope, a garden bed, or a snazzy container aglow with this fabulously colorful small agave. Agave 'Sunglow' is an absolute stunner of a sport of the stunning Agave hybrid 'Blue Glow', itself a cross of Agave attenuata and Agave ocahui. This "sunnier," variegated variant, discovered by the breeder of Agave 'Blue Glow', boasts full-leaf streaks of yellow on either side of the blue-green middle. The leaf edges start out really toothy and more lightly colored. As the plant ages, its touch-friendly teeth should become predominantly red and those edges more irregularly jagged, particularly on the upper part of the leaves. Stare at those developed edges long enough and you might think you're viewing a red rock country tableau.
Agave 'Sunglow' really shines when massed around a larger agave or succulent plant, perhaps in tandem with Agave 'Blue Glow' or fellow variant Agave 'Snowglow'. Another wonderful option: place the plant where it can impress and be readily admired as a focal specimen, such as near the social action of a patio. With its brightly striped and edgy personality, Agave 'Sunglow' can serve as a sharp-looking conversation sparker. Your Agave 'Sunglow' will arrive fully rooted in a 3.5" pot. The plant's character will only become more impressive as it grows.
Provide full to part sun. Agave 'Sunglow' is drought tolerant once established, although it will look best with watering in hotter months. If you live in an area with toasty summers, taking the edge off the hot afternoon sun should help maintain optimal coloring. Provide adequately to well-draining soil. You can feed with diluted fertilizer during spring and summer.
